"UGH! Second machine stopped working too!" 2009-07-25
By ENFJ (Denver CO)
That is right second machine stopped working. This time only after two weeks! Sure we like the convenience but we are totally frustrated that it has stopped working. Same thing happened to both machines... stopped pumping water into the coffee and started pumping into the reservoir. UGH we are frustrated! At the price of the machine and the price of the coffee we will not be trying again.

"Super Impressed - Fast, Easy, and Tasty!" 2009-06-01
By ThatToyChick (Central NJ, USA)
My guy and I LOVE this little machine. It heats up water very quickly (something we used to rely on our Sunbeam Teadrop to do, before it took on an awful flavor after awhile) which is great to use for things like instant cream of wheat and oatmeal in the morning, not just coffee and tea!

The K-cups are amazing in taste; I was a barista (coffee slinger - think gal behind the counter of a starbucks) for three years and I ground the beans fresh every morning. I haven't smelled or tasted anything close to the coffee I used to make there in any commercial setup until now. The K-cups keep their contents fresh and tasty, and there's no messy leakage from the pod when you take it back out.

There is a loud WHIRRRR for about 5-10 seconds after the cup is brewed as the machine takes in more water, but it's no worse than any other countertop appliance, in my opinion. Unless you have cats that scare easily or a grumpy hubby that sleeps in when you're getting ready in the morning, I don't see it being an issue.

Stays clean, performs well, and it's super-quick if you'd rather hit the snooze button than get up and make coffee. You can even set it to turn on in the morning :)

In the interest of full disclosure, someone was throwing this out in our apartment complex, so we figured what the hey, we'll check it out. No water was coming out, even though the machine was whirring, buzzing, screen was showing up - all systems go except water through the brew spout. My fiance tinkered with it and ended up pinching the small rubber valve that extends into the water tank, forcing the water to "flush" out the lines. A vinegar rinse run-through, a coffee maker cleaner powder run-through, and voila - worked like a brand new machine. If you have issues with yours...don't rely on the customer service line; educate yourself in online forums and try the things I described above before plunking down $$ on another!

"This Thing Drives Me Nuts!!!!!!" 2009-05-18
By F. Akins (Edwardsville, IL USA)
I got this as a mother's day gift because my old Mr. Coffee was leaking. The Keurig makes me want to scream. For the last week I have followed the directions to the word and it won't work. It takes a minimum 4 tries to get a cup of coffee. I'm not really happy with the coffee either, there is a strong plastic taste to the drink. I thought that would go away after awhile. The other drawback is I can't find the K cups at any of the grocery stores, Sears carries them - yuck or mail order. I'm putting it back in the box and getting a regular coffee pot. Sorry fam I know you thought it was cool.

 "Watery Coffee" 2009-05-16
By James N. Averill (Bucks County PA)
The Keurig is easy to use but the coffee is watery. I even have the little plastic filter attachment so you can brew your own coffee. I stuff that with 2 1/2 tbls. of coffee, set the machine to medium setting and it still turns out light. If you like watery coffee, which I imagine some do, then this is a great machine. If you like robust coffee then this is not the machine for you. I received this as a gift and returned it after one week of weak brews. I've had my neighbors test it too and they all agreed, that while it is sleek and easy to use, the coffee it brews is below par. If you think about it...taste is the most important thing right?

I think the problem with the Keurig is it shoots hot water throught the coffee packets so quickly that it doesn't have time to extract all the flavor from the grounds.

I even put this machine to the test. I brewed 1 (8 oz.) cup of coffee using the Keurig and 1 (8 oz.) cup using my generic Mr. Coffee machine.

I used 2 tbls. of ground (Melba Coffee) in each.

I used clear glass mugs so I could visually examine the difference.

Results:

Time

------

Kuerig took 40 seconds to brew from the time I hit the on button.

Mr. Coffee 3 mins from start to finish.

Strentgh

------

Kuerig was watery, light in color.

Mr. Coffee looked much darker in color.

I had to add 5 oz of clear water to the Mr. Coffee mug to make the two the exact color.

Think about that. The Keurig makes coffee 50% more watery than my $35

Mr. Coffee.

My car doesn't run well when there is extra water in its gasoline and I don't run well with extra water in my coffee.

Do a taste test before you plop down $130.

Oh well, back to my Mr. Coffee. Sure it takes quadruple the time but at least I enjoy the taste. Sometimes you can't rush things.
