I love the My K Cup product. This is a fantastic way to use your own coffee in your Keurig machine, but the price (currently listed here for 44 dollars. Forty Four Dollars!) is more than 4 times the suggested price of 9.95 for the 2 replacement filters----- and it is also priced 30 dollars higher than the suggested price of the my k cup filter itself (15.00 at target) If this price isn't a typo, this seller is taking advantage of amazon customers. Please shop around before you buy!

If you have a Keurig brewer then you need these extra filter baskets to please the other coffee drinkers in the morning. One works, but you don't need to constantly wash them before brewing another cup. While there are many flavors and types of K-cups, there is none better than using your own grind.

Keurig makes an excellent single cup product and has the extra feature of being able to use one's own coffee mix to brew the single cup. The filters are just exactly as advertised -- although I have found some locally that were much less expensive.

 "An All-Around Great Coffee" 2009-07-11

I have been drinking mostly French-roast coffee for a while, and usually add some sweetener and soy milk to it to help buffer the slight bitterness. I tried this Timothy's Colombian with a little bit of sweetener, and was very pleasantly surprised by the flavor. This is just the kind of coffee you'd want for guests if you don't know their preferences. I'll have to try some of the non-decaf to see if it is as good.

I would give it a 5 rating if not for the unusual amount of problems I have had with the mechanical construction of Timothy's K-Cups. It seems that the internal filter often comes loose at the edges.

"If you understand what it is and isn't, it's a TERRIFIC product." 2009-08-07
By Ariel Benzakein (Boston, MA USA)
I've had this Breville for a year now, and it's great. I've tried almost every K-Cup (by the way - order them from Amazon, they're half as expensive as Keurig) and some of them are really good, and most are average. This machine is by far the best of the K-Cup brewers, and if you have a kitchen with stainless appliances, it will fit right in. Your coffee won't be as good as freshly ground coffee in a french press, but it's pretty decent, depending on the K-Cup you use. One nice thing about these brewers is that if you are entertaining, you can make a different type of coffee for each guest (or maybe tea and hot chocolate) without a lot of fuss. There is no cleanup time either, you just throw away the used K-Cup and you're done. If you are like me and like a strong cup of coffee, I've found that these K-Cups are pretty good: Timothy's "Midnight Magic" and "Parisian Nights", Emeril's "Big Easy Extra Bold", and Coffee People's "Jet Fuel" (the Twinings teas are good too, as is the Cafe Escapes Dark Chocolate hot chocolate).

"Coffee Freak Finds Quick Morning Fix !" 2009-07-31
By rwizard (USA)
In the spirit of full disclosure, I am a coffee freak. I roast my own coffee. I have a wide variety of exotic coffee beans in my reserve, from blueberry harar to monsooned malabar (no kopi luwak though). My brewer collection includes everything from a lowly plastic "cup top" to an alcohol fueled vacuum brewer with 24k gold fixtures (and everything in between). I have no excuse. I consume coffee at modest levels. And yet I use the same coffee grinder in my kitchen that Starbucks uses in their stores.

So what possessed me to buy a K-Cup machine, when they are not exactly known for producing great coffee? A love of stainless steel? Impulse? Discovering a few square inches of empty counter space in our kitchen? I'm not really sure.

When I saw it at a certain well known gourmet chain store, it was a brand new item. And much as I love all of my coffee toys, sometimes I just want a quick and easy cup of coffee. What the heck, it was just one more interesting coffee machine. So I bit and I bought.

When I got home with it and set it up on the counter, there was no question that it was a nice machine. And I already knew that it claimed to have the temperature control so critical to brewing a proper cup. But would it perform?

First I tried some of the coffee that came with it. I was not impressed. I played with temp and brew size. Still not impressed. Next I ordered some of just about every coffee Keurig had available in order to try them (back then there was no such thing as finding K-Cups locally).

I have to say that I threw away a lot of bad cups, but found a few interesting ones along the way. Eventually I settled on some offerings that I found drinkable. And the convenience is hard to beat. So I do find myself using this machine. My wife is less critical of her coffee, and she uses it every day, and loves it.

So, if you are looking for the ultimate home brewer for the perfect cup of coffee, this probably isn't it. Try a Technivorm Technivorm Moccamaster KBT-741 Thermal Coffee Brewer, a vacuum brewer Bodum Santos Stovetop Glass Vacuum 34-Ounce Coffee Maker, or the Yama Tabletop 3 Cup Vacpot Coffee Siphon & Vacuum Pot or try the famous 1970's era Chemex Chemex 6 Cup Coffee Maker. Maybe even a good Melitta 64007B Single Cup Coffee Filter Cone ( BLACK ) cheap, cup-top.

However, if you want an absolutely simple and moderately elegant way to generate a passable cup to clear your head in the morning, then the Breville may indeed be a good choice.

Here are a few tips after a couple of years using the Breville:

> Yes, you can get good hot chocolate out of those little cups. Here is how. First tap the K-Cup on the counter a few times, the chocolate tends to clump. Second, open and close the brew head several times, rotating the cup K-Cup each time. This will allow the water to pass through multiple holes, and dissolve all of the chocolate.

> Always wash the K-Cup holder between uses. If you don't think this is needed, and have been using your machine without doing it, try placing the holder in a bowl of vinegar. Watch the vinegar turn to something which looks like tea. Wipe the inside of the cup with a paper towel and look at the crud you got out of it. Now rinse thoroughly.

> Use good quality filtered water. Do NOT use RO water unless you use a mineral cartridge to restore the mineral content. Do not use distilled water either.

> If the coffee from your Breville tastes over extracted, lower the temperature. You may also wish to experiment with the brew size. (You can add a little hot water if you need more volume, or poor some coffee off if you need less - the goal is getting the right extraction.)

 "Exceeds My Expectations" 2009-07-29
By Daniel L. Bray (Orlando, FL)
PROS: Versatile & great tasting coffee, tea, iced tea and cocoa (plus you can use your own coffee), by numerous brands. Beautiful design w/ lots of useful features. Easy to clean & maintain. Quality parts & well made. Cartridge filter for cleaner water & better tasting coffee. K-cups are easy to find online, and more stores are carrying them now. CONS: Regular K-cup coffees taste weak, so be sure to order "Extra Bold", now carried by most brands making K-cups (hot tea, iced tea and cocoa don't have this issue). When using your own coffee, it's recommended that you use "French press" coffee for a more robust flavor. Loud vibration sound at the end of the brewing cycle. With the brewer head raised, the overall height is 17.5", which can be a clearance issue for some upper cabinets (too heavy to move back-and-forth as with most smaller coffee makers). Still a little pricey. SUMMARY: Keep your old coffee maker (for parties) and splurge on this machine... it makes more than coffee, you'll get a lot out it and will enjoy using it.

"Great, if you stick to the K-cups" 2009-07-15
By Music Critic (New Orleans)
I've had this machine for about 9 months now. It makes a great cup of coffee with almost all of the K-cups I've tried, as well as pretty good tea with the few tea K-cups I've tried. The hot chocolate just isn't worth it. However, the real reason I got this particular machine was for the ability to make a cup of coffee using regular coffee grinds, using the adapter. At first it worked great, at least as good as the k-cups, and I had an unlimited variety of coffee. It worked with every grind I tried, from Gevalia, to Folgers, even using home-ground coffee. However, after aboout 6 months the little metal basket in the adapter got too dirty to clean effectively, and the quality of the coffee started to suffer. So I picked up a replacement basket at a local store and figured I was back in the game. Not so. Ever since then, every time I try to make coffee using the adapter I get a big mess. The water comes out the side of the nozzle and I get multiple streams. The coffee grinds end up in the coffee cup. The resulting coffee is weak and terrible. I wrote to Breville about it and they said to use a coarser grind of coffee - but no luck. Finally, I thought maybe I got a bad basket, so I ordered one directly from breville. However, that one did not work either. The funny thing is, if I insert the adapter without any coffee in it, just the empty basket, it appears to work perfectly - a single stream. And it still makes great coffee using k-cups. But that's not what I signed up for, hence the 2 stars.

We have tried several different coffee makers in the past and this one is by far the best. Especially using the reusable kcups. For me having the coffee really hot is important and this machine delivers cup after cup, of piping hot coffee. The great thing is it is easy to set up and use, and each cup tastes the same as the one before. My wife and I highly recommend this coffee maker.

 "The Ultimate Edition!" 2009-08-01
By D. Vandervalk (Thousand Oaks, CA)
The Book:

Dover Publications does it again. This has to be the ultimate reasonably-priced edition of Pride and Prejudice you could ever get your hands on. Don't be fooled by the image of the stuffy dust cover; underneath the beige paper is a red cloth-bound, gold-printed cover which would enhance the finest library. The endpapers are embossed with a floral design, which is a lovely touch.

This is a republication of an 1894 edition, in which the typography is perfect - that is, there are fewer words to a page making it easy on the eyes, while your progress through the book goes rapidly through its 476 pages. The paper is high-quality yet lightweight, which is great for a large hardcover like this. But the best features this edition has are the original Victorian-era illustrations by Hugh Thomson. Just...beautiful!

The Story:

Reviewing a classic like this almost feels silly, so I will do so briefly. The story moves slowly from "interesting" to "greatness." For the first third or so it seemed like a funny, lightweight girly-gossip novel, and I kept thinking, "This book has got nothing on Jane Eyre!" Then it took a twist, and another, and got complicated, and the characters were developed, and the story darkened and I got totally sucked in until I could not put it down. Yep. Classic. Loved it!

 "MY DEAR READER," 2009-07-25
By Lady Hawkeye (Seattle, Wash.)
MY DEAR READER

I cannot but be rendered in the highest of spirits upon completing this volume yet again, as I have always preferred extensive reading to trivial pleasures.

Dwelling on particular passages and turns of phrase, I am reminded of how ardently I admire and love the prose that issued forth when Miss Austen put ink to paper many a fortnight ago.

Neither common, nor dull, nor threadbare, each chapter engrosses completely with accounts of gentlemen of handsome countenance and ladies both sensible and silly.

And though its conclusion is known most intimately to my own heart, anxiously I turn each page to venture ever farther away from the misconstrued encounters and lamentable conduct of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.

When finally all is concluded and the mistress of Pemberley assured, only then can I chuse another distraction to engage my solitary hours. I wish nothing less than for you to know the same adoration yourself.

Yours, &c.

Pride and Prejudice is a great read and Jane Austen is a gifted writer whose development of likable characters will be enjoyed for still more generations. It is hard at first to adjust to the language of the 1800s but is well worth the effort. Once the story begins to unfold you will not want to put it down. I also highly recommend Mansfield Park also by Jane Austen.

Glenn Beck's Common Sense: The Case Against an Out-of-Control Government, Inspired by Thomas Paine

"If you believe it's time to put principles above parties, character above campaign promises, and Common Sense above all -- then I ask you to read this book...."

In any era, great Americans inspire us to reach our full potential. They know with conviction what they believe within themselves. They understand that all actions have consequences. And they find commonsense solutions to the nation's problems.

One such American, Thomas Paine, was an ordinary man who changed the course of history by penning Common Sense, the concise 1776 masterpiece in which, through extraordinarily straightforward and indisputable arguments, he encouraged his fellow citizens to take control of America's future -- and, ultimately, her freedom.

Nearly two and a half centuries later, those very freedoms once again hang in the balance. And now, Glenn Beck revisits Paine's powerful treatise with one purpose: to galvanize Americans to see past government's easy solutions, two-part monopoly, and illogical methods and take back our great country.

"The Death of Common Sense??" 2009-08-02
By Robert C. Olson (Vacaville, California USA)
The Death of Common Sense??

In my humble opinion Mr. Glen Beck has done the country an inestimable service in writing his insightful book Common Sense. Sadly, like all political commentary, sides will be drawn based on one's political perspective. This should not be the case with Common Sense as Mr. Beck attempts to make the argument of our out-of-control government today. He cites numerous examples ranging the entire federal and local government spectrum and including all facets of political foolishness, incompetence, and ideological lunacy. Whether you agree or disagree with Mr. Beck this is a worthy read in an attempt to reset the governmental landscape in a more fundamental reality.

In many ways Common Sense has given way to political manipulation in an attempt to reengineer our most fundamental political ideals and beliefs as set forth by the founding fathers. Can we ever get back to those ideals? Read this book for some interesting solutions. Again, don't be swayed by your preconceived political leanings. Read and attempt to see the truth and beauty of common sense as it really is. You might just be surprised.

Strong recommend. Very good commentary on our government's current lack of common sense and over- reliance on politics to maintain control of a government spinning out of control. Read it for ideas NOT political ideology. Put aside preconceived notions and ask the simple question WHY. You might be surprised at your answer.

"Common Sense is on the Target" 2009-08-02
By Myron A. Martwick (Oak Grove, Oregon)
Glenn Beck's Common Sense is on the bulls eye of the target. He in very plain terms enumerates the problems with our federal government not just with the Republicans or Democrates. He warns of our loss of LIBERTY each time the government interfears with our daily lives. It's a wake up call to everyone who loves Freedom and hates Tyranny. He calls us to return to the principles of the founding documents of our Republic, and adhear to their authors original meaning, and not distort them with the "Progressive's" idea of living documents that change with the times.

I purchased 6 copies of this book. I have read 1 (one) and have given the others to friends and left a couple in public places. I have written inside the front cover asking those who read it to please sign their name and date it and pass it on for others to read.

It gives a clear picture of where we are as a nation and how far we have strayed from the Constitution as it was written and intended by the framers.

We as a nation are like a drug-induced patient who is beginning to regain consciousness and asking " where am I and how did I get here?" Glenn Beck has given us the answers. It is also important to read the second half of the book, Thomas Paine's original "Common Sense".
